Learning journey

Years 5 and 6 have been even busier than usual in the last two weeks!
Four pupils took part in a Science Workshop at Downlands, and were a credit to our school.
ten pupils represented the school at the NEARS Cross Country, coming 5th overall and with some great individual runs.

Nine pupils represented the school in the Downlands Maths Quiz, with both teams performing really well and one of them coming first. Congratulations!

Thank you to the parents who attended our workshop on the teaching of writing last week. If you have any comments or feedback we would love to hear from you, so that we can plan for further sessions in the future.

Please note that, now that it is getting dark earlier, outdoor clubs will finish at 4.15.

Rememberence day
Every year the whole school observes two minutes
silence together at 11am on 11th November

We are delighted with our new hall floor and the lines on the playground, and are now beginning to plan other developments to our school grounds. We will be consulting with the children but, again, would be very pleased to have ideas from parents and friends.

There are lots of special activities this week.
It is Anti-Bullying Week.
Pupils are invited to wear blue (non-uniform) on Monday (16th) to show support.

On Tuesday 17th, a representative from the NSPCC will be visiting to talk to the children during assembly.

We have another non-uniform day on Friday (20th) as it is Children in Need. Children are invited to wear Spots or Stripes in return for a donation. There will also be buskers (some of our pupils who learn instruments!) outside school at the end of the day.

Also next week, we are delighted to have Paul Geraighty, the children’s’ author, visiting school to work with Reception and Years 1 and 2 on Wednesday and with Year 3,4,5, and 6 on Thursday. He will be leading workshops which the children will follow up with their own story writing, and I am sure it is going to be a very enjoyable and inspiring experience for them all. Paul will be bringing a selection of his books which the children may buy and have signed after school each day at a cost of about £6. If you would like your child to buy a book but are unable to come at the end of the day please send the money in a named envelope to your child’s class teacher.

Monday 14th December is our ‘Christmas Hat lunch’, and we have arranged with the hot meal suppliers to have a Christmas dinner served on that day. Anyone who would like their child to have a hot meal, even if they do not usually, needs to order on line by Friday 27th November on www.mealselector.co.uk. Reception children are invited to stay for lunch and for the afternoon on that day.
