Robins Class - Autumn Term Learning

Welcome to a brand new school year, and a very exciting time for both you and your children. We understand that, as well as exciting, it can be a bit of an anxious time, so please do not hesitate to come and talk to us if you have any concerns.

In the first half of this term Robins Class will be learning all about “Monkey and Me”, based on a book by the author Emily Gravett. It is a wonderful book and lends it self to learning all about ourselves and some very furry friends!

During this first half term we will also be learning lots of letter sounds using the “Letters and Sounds” programme. This phonics learning is very important and will form the basis for all the reading and writing skills we will be working on this year.

During the second half of the term our learning journey changes to “Over the rainbow”, where we learn about colour and light. We also focus on the important festivals which occur at this time of year including Diwali, Bonfire Night and, of course, Christmas! Our main texts for this term include “Grandpa’s Handkerchiefs” and the “Elmer” stories, as well as the Bible story of Noahs Ark and the story of Rama and Sita. There is also the Nativity to prepare for and all the fun of “Decorations Day”, where we make Christmas decorations for our school. (Grown ups are encouraged to help!) I know this seems a long time off now, but it creeps up so quickly.
I hope that gives you a taster of our learning for this term. Please come and ask if there are any concerns or queries.
