World Earth Day

World Earth Day

Led by our World Earth Day crew we have been celebrating our wonderful planet.

Here is some of the learning we did.

Our World Earth Day Crew and their new friend.

Years 1 and 2 meeting and learning about the animals.

Thank you Spirit of the Wild.

Year 5's fact files and pictures

Year 6 learning about evolution & inheritance. What is evolution and how does it work? How are animals and plants adapted to their environment?

“Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It’s not” -
Dr. Seuss

After hearing the presentation from the Year 6 Eco Group, listening to the story of The Lorax by Dr. Seuss and handling the animals during their Spirit of the Wild session, Skylarks were feeling quite passionate about protecting nature!

Skylarks responded creatively to the Spirit of Arts Competition and channelled their fervour into creating a display of bright mixed-media collages of endangered species from Britain and around the globe.

Here scriptures that they responded to:

Genesis 1:26-28 ICB
6Then God said, “Let us make human beings in our image and likeness. And let them rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky. Let them rule over the tame animals, over all the earth and over all the small crawling animals on the earth.”

Job 12:7-10 ICB
7“But ask the animals, and they will teach you.
Or ask the birds of the air, and they will tell you.
Speak to the earth, and it will teach you.
Or let the fish of the sea tell you.
Every one of these knows
that the hand of the Lord has done this.
10 The life of every creature
and the breath of all people are in God’s hand.

Skylarks understood, that as humans, we have been placed as stewards to care for nature by God. Just as The Lorax could speak on behalf of the Truffla trees, the children imagined that they could hear the heart-cries of the birds, fish, trees and animals and found a voice for them by writing prayers to God, pleading for him to change the hearts of humans, so that once again, they would take good care of His creation.
