This term's theme is: Under the Sea.
An opportunity for us to be inspired by all things sea related!
Communication and Language
In the Robins’ the development of children’s Communication and Language (C&L) is promoted in all areas of our learning. We will encourage this by…
- Commenting on what children are doing and echoing back.
- Including new vocabulary in conversations
- Reading to and with the children frequently
- Engaging children in a range of text types
- Providing opportunities to use and embed new words
- A language rich environment
- Encouraging storytelling, roleplay, sharing of ideas, questioning, talk partners, show and tell, and regular nursery rhymes
Physical Development
We will further develop our fine motor skills using a range of tools. We will continue to work on our pencil grip and the formation of letters. We have regular funky finger and dough disco activities in Robins to build the strength in our hands.
We will learn different skills to support our athletics skills e.g. jumping, running, throwing. During VIP time we will complete activities to support to develop overall body strength, coordination and agility.
Personal, Social and Emotional Development
Our PSED focus is the Relationship unit from Jigsaw. We will learn the following: to see ourselves as a valuable individual; develop skills to build constructive and respectful relationships; learn ways to express our feelings and consider the feelings of others; identify and moderate feelings and how to think about the perspectives of others.
We will continue to think about how we keep ourselves healthy and particularly focus on oral hygiene.
Literacy
In literacy, we will be learning about different types of writing, such as: lists, character descriptions, recipe cards, posters, stories, and invitations.
We are becoming more confident at writing and will increase of confidence and independence to write simple sentences. We will do this by having a go at writing fact files, retelling stories, writing lists, captions, labels and more!
We follow the Read Write Inc. phonics scheme and we are already revising set 2 sounds. We read three times a week in groups as well as regularly with an adult one to one.
Maths
In maths we will develop our understanding of building numbers beyond 10 (composition of numbers), counting patterns beyond 10, adding more, taking away, doubling, sharing and grouping and spatial reasoning.
